WITCC launches online GED program: While other students sit in front of a television, decompressing, Fernando Franco of Sioux City is at his computer, working on exercises that will enable him to earn his high school equivalency diploma. Online college courses are nothing new. However, last November, the state of Iowa made available an online version of the GED study program, called GED-i, which allows students to prepare for the GED high school equivalency test without leaving home. According to Dr. Juline Albert, academic dean of students, the state purchased 250 licenses for a statewide implementation at its community colleges in January.
