City To Prepare GED Students For the Future

 

 

 
NEW YORK — City and state officials recently announced a pilot program in the city’s District 79 schools to develop an accelerated learning program that will prepare more General Educational Development (GED) candidates for careers and college. The pilot is being funded through a $3 million grant from the MetLife Foundation to the American Council on Education.

Mayor Michael Bloomberg, U.S. Secretary of Education Arne Duncan and New York City Schools Chancellor Joel Klein said the pilot program will develop and assess curricula in literacy and mathematics, train GED instructors on the new test and curricula, construct guidelines and more.
